I just got this watch for a Christmas gift and love it! I did quite a bit of research (including shopping at various jewelry stores to try the watches on) and finally decided on this eco-drive for various reasons. This model has a smaller face and sits almost unnoticed (by me) on my wrist - which is what I was looking for. I have a small wrist that other watches either look too clunky or are just too big. The black face and gold hands give a nice contrast for my aging eyes to easily read the time in spite of the smaller dial. The eco-drive totally eliminates the problem of batteries dying when you least expect it, and having to find a jeweler to replace them. The book states that a full charge in sunlight will enable the watch to run for up to a year in the dark!! The watch has been running since I got it just on the store's flourescent lighting. I used to own a citizen eco Drive similar to this exact model. Needed to get the band resized since it was large but the watch is beautiful, lightweight and metal band does not tarnish since it is stainless steel. Have yet to see how long the gold finish will last but my previous two tone watch held its color for over 2 years. It does not need its battery changed since it is a rechargable cell that works via solar cell and artificial light works. Just be careful if you wear long sleeve shirts all the time, if so you will need to leave the watch under the sun or a lamp when you are not wearing it to charge it. I dropped the previous watch a few times and the hour hand came off. First of all, this is a very nice looking watch and it is fairly accurate (+15 sec/month). However, the biggest problem I have is with the band. The band is very stiff and it snags even very tiny hairs on my wrist. The bad thing is, there are no other bands (not even from Citizen) that will fit the watch because of the way the case is shaped. Also, the hands line up with some of the markers, but not all of them. I understand that this isn't a big deal, but it irritates me a bit. I bought this Citizen Eco-drive to replace one I'd given my wife nine years ago that finally failed. We discovered that the power unit was fried and they didn't make replacements. The original was much more expensive than this, but we didn't know it was ultimately a throwaway.
This watch is the same technology but we expect it to crump in a few year. It's still a beautiful watch, and the eco-drive is totally hands-off as long as it lasts. No batteries to maintain, no problem if you don't wear it for a long time. It keeps itself charged with light input through the porous face.
My wife loves it and I plan to replace it every five to nine years. Oh well!

The only negative is that you need to check dimensions carefully on the Amazon watch site. All watches are displayed as approx the same size, This one is smaller than I expected (my bad) but it looks good on her wrist and she can still read the time on it. I really treasure the watch. It is exactly what I was looking for. It is thin and quite comfortable on my wrist. It looks sharp and is a great conversation piece. How many people do you know with a solar powered watch ... and one that doesn't look like a piece of technology too!

Charging it has turned out to be no problem ... as I left the watch in full-sun for several days. NOT having a charge indicator IS a drawback. It is hard to KNOW when you need a re-charge. Other Citizen watches tell you they need charging by the behavior of the second hand. This watch has no second hand.

The band is especially comfortable, something that is important with any metal-link band, although the clasp is difficult to work. It requires that you press two 'buttons' -- one each on either side of the band -- to release AND connect the band. The action is tricky, and may not be to everyone's taste. It is a llittle awkward.

Be warned that the watch is ONLY water resistant. Do not wear it while doing the dishes!

Lastly ... my watch appears to run slow ... losing roughly a minute every two days. This may only be MY watch. I have contacted the seller and am waiting for a response.

But even though I don't expose it to very much sunlight, indoor lighting has kept it going without missing a beat.

The inner ends of the leather band are winged with metal tips (the silver portions in the picture). Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Corso Stainless Steel Watch #BM8400-50A

I will keep updating this as I have more experience. I got it last week. It arrived in a beautiful blue box (good as a gift). The band is pretty loose for normal wrist sizes and you have to get it to a jeweler. I went to local Fred Meyer (grocery) store jeweler and they didn't charge anything. The clasp mechanism is very nice (definitely better than the Skagen one I had)

Setting the date and time was not an issue.

The watch hands glow in the dark (for a while anyways).

It is very quiet.

Very clean design. I almost wish the hands are darker color as it blends in with the watch face a bit too much. Maybe it is getting used to it is the problem since it is pretty new.

I will take this to Mexico vacation with me and will see how it fares.

The watch is not big, but it gives the illusion of a substantial dressy watch so best of both worlds for me.

I recently purchased this watch from Amazon. It is a beautiful watch to look at (I would rate it 5 stars based on appearance); however, the specifications listed for this watch are incorrect. It is indicated that the case, band and bezel materials are stainless steel. The back of the watch has the words "base metal" stamped into it. This surprised me, as base metal is generally used in what would be considered "cheap", or costume, jewelry. Some base metals are iron, copper, nickel, lead or zinc. They can corrode easily and cause skin irritation. I contacted Amazon about my concern, and they suggested I contact Citizen directly at 1-800-321-1023. I called Citizen, and they confirmed that according to their specifications, the watch material, including the band and caseback, is indeed base metal. Since their own website also advertises the watch as being stainless steel, they said they would have to change this error. I took the watch to a local jeweler who was selling this watch, and he was also under the impression that it was stainless steel, and was very surprised to hear that a watch of this price, and from this manufacturer, was actually made from base metal. So just be aware that if you have any kind of skin sensitivities, or are concerned about your watch potentially corroding, this may be something to consider before making the decision to purchase, especially at this price. I haven't had the watch long enough to report on any personal experiences with it as yet (I have only worn it once, for a brief period of time). But I am disappointed, and likely would not have purchased it had I been correctly informed as to the actual materials.
